Maritime practices and transportation methods for heavy cargo
Due to the shortage of specialized transport ships, it is difficult to meet the needs of the maritime market. So far, there are still a large number of large-scale and heavy-duty equipment that are carried by multi-purpose ships or standard bulk carriers; but the real heavy-duty can only be carried by having super-heavy booms. Equipment, ultra-thick decks and special stability systems, as well as special transport ships capable of handling ultra-wide and long heavy-duty items.
The hoisting of heavy and large items has been in a state of continuous change in the maritime history of the past few decades. In the early 1960s, the so-called major items usually refer to equipment weighing about 60 tons. By the beginning of the 21st century, the so-called major Pieces refer to equipment exceeding 150 tons. Therefore, the contemporary global shipping industry usually divides major cargo into three types: below 600 tons; 600 tons-1,000 tons; and above 1,000 tons.
According to the current heavy and large shipping practice, the shipper must sign a contract with the relevant shipping company to reserve a space in advance, so that the carrier can prepare for safe shipping such as professionally designed combination of over-heavy load combined with boom and strengthened cargo deck to withstand heavy cargo. . Although land-based cranes or surface floating cranes are often used to help transport ships load and unload heavy and oversized sets of equipment, in accordance with international maritime practices and safe handling regulations, heavy oversized equipment carriers must have their own heavy oversized booms. In addition, heavy and oversized booms must be constantly updated and optimized according to user requirements, so that in remote and remote places with outdated port equipment, ships can load and unload heavy and oversized cargo by themselves without the support of port machinery and equipment.
At present, there are many types of goods transported in international ocean transportation, and the types of ships and loading and unloading equipment used to transport goods are also different for different types of goods. Therefore, for specific cargo, how to transport oversized cargo is introduced from two aspects: ship type and loading and unloading equipment.
